Sanding Sponge från Leather Master is very useful when applying different types of furniture oil.
The wood fibers rise over time but with the help of the sponge the wood gets a soft and comfortable wood surface.

Do this:

Grind in the wet oil / liquid in the wood fiber direction.
Wipe off excess oil.
