Artek - Iconic design since 1935

Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists – Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. The vision was to create furniture and interiors for a modern lifestyle through a fusion of art and technology. With roots in the radical spirit of modernism, Artek is still an innovator in the world of design today. The brand creates products at the intersection of design, architecture, and art and is known for its clear formal language, functional design, and poetic simplicity.

Design Heritage: A vision that unites art and technology

The name Artek is a synthesis of "art" and "technology", a concept that was born from the international movement of modernism in the 1920s. The German architect Walter Gropius, a central figure in modernism, formulated the idea of a "new unity" somewhere between art and technology. For Artek's founders, this became a guiding ideal, which is reflected in every product that is created.

Artek's range consists of furniture, lighting, and accessories created by prominent Finnish designers and international designers. The products are made of sustainable materials such as Finnish birch and combine timeless aesthetics with modern functionality.
