Lladro

Lladró is a Valencia, Spain-based company which is famed for its porcelain figurines, jewelry, home décor accessories, sculptures and high-end lighting. The story of Lladró began in 1953 when three brothers – Juan, José and Vicente Lladró – established the company in the tiny agricultural village of Almácera on the Spanish east coast.

The Story of Lladró

The brothers began their venture by baking their clay-type base in a traditional Moorish kiln in the garden behind their home. However, the thing that sets them apart from the competition is their creativity, virtuoso techniques and superior craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from the works of iconic porcelain manufacturers like Capodimonte and Meissen, Lladró’s products quickly gained a following in the region.

Three developments occurred in the 1960s which elevated the status of Lladró into one of the most respected names in porcelain making. The first is the introduction of the innovation single-firing kiln compared to the conventional triple-firing method. This cut down production time significantly without any drop in quality and introduced pastel tones into the finished product, which became a hallmark of the company’s products.

The second event is the founding of a Professional Training School at the company’s headquarters. This not only established the company’s pedigree, but the initiative also created a continuous source of expertly trained artisans for the Lladró brand. The final event occurred in 1965 – Lladró entered into the American market.

The 70s and 80s were decades of consolidation, expansion and experimentation for Lladró. A formal collector’s society, with a membership that peaked at over 100,000, was also founded in 1985. By the 1990s, Lladró has become a world-renowned and in-demand brand, a status which it has maintained to this day. Today, its products can even be found inside museums!

Lladro ornaments and figurines

Lladró is synonymous with high-quality ornaments and figurines. Its range of products is among the best selling products in the medium and upper end of the home art and décor niches. At RoyalDesign, we are proud to carry a wide assortment of the company’s figurines and ornaments. Perhaps the most famous range is the Lladro figurines angels. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing them, perhaps now is a good time to start.

Let’s begin with the Angel Dreaming figurine. Measuring at 15x12x11 cm, this Salvador Debón designed figurine is made from glazed porcelain and decked in soft pastel brown and white. The angel radiates innocence and purity, which gives you a sense of warmth. It’s the perfect gift for anyone, for any occasion.

Or what about the My guardian angel figurine? The 14x14x12 cm figurine depicts a toddler sleeping on the lap of a cherubic angel. The glossy white and pink porcelain piece, conceived by sculptor José Javier Malavia, conveys a sense of well-being and would fit perfectly inside a manger.

For something more figurative, the Lladró Pomegranate might be just what you’ve been searching for. It has a lustrous golden finish, adorned with plant etchings, and deep red color for the pulp inside. When seated on the brown wooden stand, the figurine measures 17x13x13 cm, making it a perfect decorative element on shelves, side tables and even glass cases.

If nature holds a special place in your heart, perhaps the How Do You Do Duck Figurine fits the bill, pun intended. The porcelain figurine features a yellow duck and three ducklings perched on a small green mound next to a thick bush of flowers. It’s beautiful and evocative of nature – the perfect centerpiece for your collection.

Instead of listening to us, why don’t you take a leisurely stroll inside our virtual Lladró shelf and revel in their workmanship and imagination?
