Martini glasses & Cocktail glasses

What do you get when you mix one part dry vermouth with six parts gin and shake it (not stirred, as James Bond likes to point out) inside a mixing glass with cubed ice? You will get the most iconic and famous cocktail drink ever invented – the martini! Now, if you’re a barbarian, you can just pour this delectable cocktail into a mug or plastic cup and drink it away. It will still be delicious, but you won’t fully experience the essence of a martini.

So invest in a martini glass set today and learn how to accentuate the taste of this divine cocktail with an olive, a lemon twist or an orange peel (courtesy of Mr. Bond, again).

Are martini glasses only meant for martinis?

Actually, no. You see, martinis are sometimes simply referred to as cocktails, and consequently, the glasses are frequently called cocktail glasses. Due to their V-shaped inverted bowl, Martini glasses are excellent at retaining aromas and are easy to drink from, so they are regularly used in place of the coupe glasses, which is the correct type of glass for cocktails such as Cosmos, Whiskey Sours and Manhattans.

Now that we’ve covered the basics, are you ready to start shopping for cocktail and martini glasses online?

Martini glasses

Martini glasses look like the smaller cousins of coupe glasses. They have a short stem, a sloping inverse bowl and a wide sipping brim. The design is meant to fulfill three objectives – minimize heat transfer from the hand, funnel the aroma upwards and prevent the separation of the liquor. The shallow design also allows for easy placement and retrieval of garnishes and skewers.

A good starter martini glass for your home is the mouth-blown Kosta Boda Line Martini Glass. The 165mm tall, 23 cl glass exudes a calm elegance that makes it at home on dinner tables or bar counters.

If you’d like to start with something a little more distinctive, take a look at Orrefors’s Intermezzo Blue Martini Glass. It has a drop of blue in the stem that gives the glass an air of opulence.

Cocktail glasses

Cocktail glasses are slightly larger versions of martini glasses. No one is quite certain who invented the cocktail glass, but it has been used since the 19th century. The distinguishing factor of a cocktail glass is its long stem. The stem allows a drinker to hold the glass away from the liquor content. This prevents heat from the drinker’s hand from affecting the chilled drink inside the inverse bowl of the glass. Pretty clever design, don’t you think?

Cocktail glasses are usually used for fancy blends of spirits and fruit juices, so try to set the mood with equally fancy looking glasses. Have you seen Ritzenhoff’s Next Cocktail Glass? It features a beautiful painted leafy motif designed by Kathrin Stockebrand – a perfect punch for fruity cocktails like strawberry daiquiri, grapefruit spritz or cranberry margarita.

For truly special occasions, give Rosenthal’s Versace Medusa Luminere Cocktail glass a try. This haute couture crystal glassware screams of extravagance and exceptional quality – it will elevate any event into a prestigious one.

We also carry other types of spirit glasses, such as lowball glasses and champagne flutes, to enhance your drinking experience. Please feel free to look around and discover our exciting assortment of glasses!
